Mosaic Light Poles

Elizabeth Lyons of More Fire Glass Studio, Rochester NY, has been selected as the Teaching Artist for the Mosaic Light Pole Project. Elizabeth Lyons has administrated and taught in programs that have brought glass education to thousands of students over the past thirteen years.  Included in those programs were numerous youth program and classes in mosaic making. Elizabeth will work with High School aged students from the Rochester area to design and create the mosaics.

Elevated Illuminated Sculpture
Cliff Garten Studio
Cliff Garten has been selected and awarded a commission to design an illuminated sculpture that is proposed will be located at the north terminus of the project at Village Gate. A contribution from the Village Gate is enabling this work to maximize its artistic and catalytic potential.

Adjacent Partner Projects

Centennial Sculpture Park
Tom Otterness
A major sculptural installation by American artist Tom Otterness will anchor a new community park on the grounds of the Memorial Art Gallery. Otterness is known for narrative works that are at once light-hearted and socially pertinent. His proposal for MAG-populated by monumental limestone sculptures that echo the surrounding buildings, as well as by smaller bronze figures-will tell the story of a sculpture from quarry to finished product. Rochester Museum and Science Center
Living Lenses
Traveling Through Stillness is the title of the piece that Living Lenses will create for the Rochester Museum & Science Center. It will have an interactive component inside the museum building that relates directly to a large sculptural ring fabricated with stainless steel pipe tipped on an angle in the plaza outside, in front of the former East Avenue museum entrance. Community Participation and Partnerships

2D Outdoor Gallery
ATM Properties has agreed to lead and manage the Outdoor Gallery proposed for the plaza in front of the Anderson Artist building. BookSmart Studio has agreed to contribute the printing and materials for the exhibits.


ArtDrop
A partnership with the Democrat & Chronicle Media Group has been established to broaden and deepen community participation. ArtDrop is one of the means of collecting creative content from the community that will be used in the Art Walk Art Walk Extension project.

Story Walk
A collaboration between the Writers &Books, Memorial Art Gallery, the Democrat & Chronicle. Stories will be collected through ArtDrop and juried; the selected stories will be used as part of the interactive sidewalk located along N Goodman Street at the Memorial Art Gallery.  Illuminated pavers will be engraved with a word that is also a  phone extension, when dialed the visitor can listen to a story.

Poet’s Walk
A collaboration between the Writers & Books, Memorial Art Gallery, the Democrat & Chronicle. Poetry will be collected though ArtDrop and juried; the selected poetry will be engraved in the sidewalk located on University Avenue along the Memorial Art Gallery Frontage.

NOTA Cache
The George Eastman House has embraced a leadership role. Through their YouNews! Academy, the Democrat & Chronicle will be matching journalists, historians and students to create the history stories for the NOTA Story Caching project. The cache boxes will be located throughout the project corridor and provide a scavenger hunt activity for visitors.

Faces of Rochester
A cooperative effort between Memorial Art Gallery, City of Rochester School District, and the Democrat & Chronicle. The Democrat & Chronicle issued a call for 6”x 6” self portraits. Self portraits were posted online and have been displayed in a temporary exhibit at the Memorial Art Gallery.


School Without Walls Rochester Stories Documentary
The Visual Studies Workshop is facilitating a participation/education initiative for an artist residency at a city school where 9th grade students will be creating film.
